Here are a few "non-live" sound clips of my EVI. For the most part, these are one pass recordings I did for one purpose or another. Some may include some guest clips from other wind synthesists that I know who generously donated a clip. Regardless, they do not qualify as "live" in the true sense and therefore reside here on a secondary page. Several are outtakes from commercial work I did. My thanks goes to Matt, Mike and Jeremy who provided the "guest" clips below. NEW! Start It - A little funk tune I threw together over the weekend just to mess around with my VL1m. I used three different VL1m patches over the backing track. Features a trombone solo. NEW! SugarTrump - A quick attempt at doing a trumpet emulation, recorded simply over an Aebersold backing track. Wiki Wiki - Another quickie recording I put together to keep my MySpace rotation fresh! And, of course, for promoting more wind controller recordings. This is a purely emulative exercise I recorded this one using a stock breakbeat track which I modified in SoundForge. All other sounds were added using the Yamaha VL70m with the Patchman Turbochip. Ewi Food - this is a quick recording I put together using a breakbeat track and playing and EWI and EVI solo over it, along with a "wah" track using my Yamaha FS1r Serpant Middle - A clip of some recording work I did with the band Fat Raleigh on their recent album. I did a variety of sounds, including flute, bassoon and some synth work as well. Check it out and see of you can find all the VL sounds I used. Funk-E-Flute - This is a solo I did while messing around with my Akai DPS Digital Recording Station. This is one of my first recordings with this unit. I used a double toned flutish sound on the VL1m. Toobey - This is an old clip of a recording I did about 5 years ago using the Yamaha VL1m with Jimi Smooth, whom I still work with today. I believe the patch I used is the stock Mad Tube patch. VL1m EWI Arp - Here is a quickie solo I did for Jimi Smooth using (I think) Matt's EWI Arp patch from the VL1m library. Very quick and synthy. Rompler Horns - Another Jimi Smooth piece. I used the old Roland U220 horn section patch for this one, complete with volume controll instead of breath. We doubled it with a real sax to make it sound beefier. Theremin Sample This is a more polished outtake from the studio stuff I did for my friend for a fitness equipment commercial. This one features the Patchman Turbo Theremin Patch as well a few pieces of the Patchman VL Drums patch for added effect - as I have stated, you could almost do a whole CD with the Turbo VL alone! 70's Osc Remix A different rendering of the 70's Osc clip below. This is a fuller version with more editing, though still minimal. Less "porno" sounding, more "smooth". Rock Guitar Hear is a rendering of some Rock Guitar stuff I did for fun - this one has been cobbled together from various bits and pieces for fun. I am playing the solo rock guitar using Patchman's Dist. Guitar patch on the VL70m w/ Turbo Chip. Soprano Outtake 1 - This outtake was from a different tune from the fitness equipment project that I did. This one is mellower, using the TraneSop patch from the Turbo VL70m. If you listen carefully, you will notice that I am reinforcing the bass line with a Moog Bass patch from the Turbo VL70m. Soprano Outtake 2 - Same song as above, playing a slightly different beginning, using the TraneSop patch. Also playing Moog Bass patch. I did a similar version using a trumpet patch, which I think will be used. If not, I will post an outtake of that here at a later date. Corea Outtake 2 - Again, same song, this time using Patchman's Corea patch from the Turbo Library. We did this same passage many times using different sounds. These are just a few samples that most likely won't be used in the commercial. Also Moog Bass patch. 70's Osc - In this passage, I am playing a horn section patch at the beginning on my Alesis Nanosynth (using the Patchman patches of course). The synch lead is also Patch man - 70'S SC from the VL70m Turbo library. Probably a tad "porno" sounding for a fitness commercial, but who knows?:-) JazzTrump Patch Clip from the song No Problem by the Jimi Smooth Band. This was recorded in the studio a while ago, using a Yamaha VL1m. The sound I used is kind of a synthy lead trumpet sound (JazzTrump). I decided not to shoot for a straight trumpet emulation, but instead embraced the inherent synth sound of the patch, utilizing some of the trumpet artifacts. GUEST CLIPS: Special Guest Clip - Matt Traum Solo - Here is an an example of some fine EVI playing by Matt using an unknown windcontroller and sound source (he wants us to guess). I suspect it is either the EVI-1000/EWV-2000 or possibly his Crumar EVI. Then again, it could be anything....take a guess. Special Guest Clip! Xmas Song Featuring Mike Yorke on EWI using an Akai 3000m module, playing Patchman's Koz Lead patch. Notice the nicely executed runs at the end. Great stuff. Special Guest Clip! JEREMY ARCHER Solo - featuring fellow EVI Player Jeremy Archer! Check out Jeremy's nice EVI solo using the EVI1000 EVW2000 system.
